TECHNOLOGY IN ITS PUREST STATE: Integrated frame + engine

Aprilia's brand new V twin has been rigorously tested on the bench and in endless track and road test sessions. Liquid cooling, four valves per cylinder and double overhead cam valve gear make the SL 750 Shiver's 90° V twin the reference point for this class of machine. Exuberant under sports riding conditions, yet smooth and responsive in daily commuting, the engine delivers character in every twist of the throttle . Its impressive compactness keeps the bike's overall dimensions to a minimum and ensures optimal weight distribution, so control and handling remain crisp under all riding conditions.

Aprilia's new 90° V twin develops a generous 95 HP at 9,000 rpm with plenty of torque right through the rev range. Electronic fuel injection and micro-spray injectors also mean that the new engine is extremely environmentally conscious.

Ride-by-Wire, Exclusive innovation: The SL 750 Shiver is the first production motorcycle in this class to incorporate Ride-by-Wire electronic throttle control.

The Ride-by-Wire system controls throttle openings by an electronic connection alone. This advanced and sophisticated system manages engine power in real time, adapting output to engine speed, road speed, gear selection, atmospheric pressure, throttle position and even the speed with which the twist-grip is being turned. This results in the optimal fuelling for any given riding situation and style.

Tri-Map Selectable Engine Mapping: The electronic engine management on the Shiver 750's engine leads the field in technology and performance. The Shiver features a second generation electronic throttle with Tri-Map selectable triple mapping.

Three performance modes, Sport, Touring and Rain, can be selected on the move from a switch on the handlebars (with the throttle closed for safety reasons). The Shiver changes its character radically, depending on what mode you select. Sport mode gives you aggressive instant power; Touring mode gives you smoother throttle action, better suited to relaxed long distance riding; and Rain mode provides reduced power for improved safety on slippery surfaces.

The Tri-Map electronic throttle also means smoother, more consistent power thanks to more accurate and precise throttle control based on parameters including engine speed, gear selection, air flow, throttle position and temperature. The V twin engine performs superbly at low and medium revs and even at partial throttle openings, situations typical of the sort of riding the Shiver 750 is designed for.

Whatever mapping you select, the engine is always ready to deliver the best possible performance in terms of acceleration and rev range, giving you an amazingly satisfying and entertaining ride.

Frame + Monoshock + Swingarm: The experience of hundreds of victories on the world's racing circuits allows Aprilia to guarantee unrivalled excellence in motorcycle frame design.

The SL 750 Shiver confirms Aprilia's talents for frame design. Its innovative mixed frame combines a tubular trellis upper section with robust cast side members in top quality aluminium, assembled by high strength bolts. Exceptionally light yet impressively strong, this innovative frame design lets you make full use of the power delivered by the 90° V twin engine while maintaining high precision control.

The lateral positioning of the monoshock not only enhances the uniqueness of the bike's styling but also saves space and allows the exhaust to follow the ideal path, optimising balance. The unit's convenient location also enables the rear suspension to be adjusted precisely and easily. The exhaust header pipes from the cylinders join before the single under-seat silencer, before splitting again into two tail pipes. The high volume of the 10 litre silencer ensures optimum engine efficiency.

Every single component on the SL 750 Shiver speaks of excellence. The size and shape of the aluminium swingarm have been specially calculated to achieve a level of rigidity unrivalled in this class of machine and combined with the 43 mm upside down forks, providing 120mm of wheel travel, allow you to tackle all sorts of roads quickly, comfortably and confidently.

The steering yokes are forged in aluminium for racing strength and lightness.

The SL 750 Shiver is also equipped with radially mounted brake calipers and aeronautical braided brake hoses exactly as on Aprilia's supersport machines – a first in this class

Radial calipers - The front brakes feature radially mounted calipers with four different diameter (32-37mm) opposed pistons, acting in pairs on a 320 mm floating disc all under the control of an axial master cylinder with built-in reservoir. This racing style braking technology ensures smooth progressive braking at all times and under all conditions.

Matrix instrument panel - The instrument panel receives engine data over a CAN line, and also incorporates a memory for self-diagnostics. The instrument panel's numerous functions can all be accessed from an intuitively designed handlebar control.

The LED backlighting, white for the analog section and red for the digital section, is adjustable to three levels of brightness for perfect readability in all lighting conditions.

Hydraulic clutch - The SL 750 Shiver features a technically advanced, hydraulically operated, wet multi-plate clutch that is not only superbly reliable but self-adjusting too.
